Yumblr

This is a food blog by two college freshmen, Chris and Rebecca. Chris, the meat-eating "closer", and Rebecca, the vegetarian wannabe-foodie, will show two sides of the food world, in Miami, college, and wherever else the wind may take them...

  1. Last weekend, my friend Camille and I ventured out into unchartered territory: Bushwick. We gathered up the courage to leave the island and spend the evening borough-style, complete with late-night noms at a little corner stop that happened to serve the tastiest Mexican food I’ve come across since living in the city. We shared this insanely delicious plate of nachos, layered with pinto beans, shredded lettuce, and oaxican cheese, with queso freso sprinkled on top. Photo courtesy of Camille’s iPhone.

  2. Oh, how I love puns (and cereal). That’s all.

  3. So I’ve been seriously behind in my yumblr-ing (I realize that you can’t just stick -ing to a noun and make it a verb, but it’s fun anyway), but I promise to be better when my new camera (the amazing Lytro!) comes in.
In the meantime, I must reblog a photo of what I had today: frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity 3, which just opened in South Beach! I realize that I do live in New York now, so running to a New York staple while back home in Miami for spring break is a little silly, but it was the perfect thing to sip on a warm beach day.

  4. So, this is from quite some time ago, but I discovered these photos on Barnard’s Facebook page; these photos are far superior to mine, and my prior reason for not posting about this annual tradition is now moot. Every year, Barnard students and faculty set up a long series of tables that weave through campus for the sole purpose of holding an extraordinarily long sandwich, or rather, series of sandwiches. The preparation takes hours, but when the clock strikes seven, Barnard girls swarm around the elongated feast. It literally took five minutes to consume the whole thing. As you can see by the Beatles-themed sandwich map, inclusivity is the goal, hence the vegetarian, kosher, and halal options. I suppose the only people left out are those with gluten allergies or an unholy aversion to sandwiches.

  5. My friends and I had a sleepover party upon our return to NYC, celebrating our glorious reunion and the start of our second semester of freshman year. My friend Julie brought scrumptious, fresh blueberries and these adorable rice cakes from Seoul, Korea, where she lives. Admittedly, at first I thought she was eating bars of soap for breakfast, but then I tried a bite of the rice cake, which had a delectable spongy texture as opposed to the grainy Quaker Oats rice cakes we’re used to in the US.

  6. fuckyeahdeliciousfood:

Eggs in Avocado Slices

Holy (guaca)mole! I feel almost foolish looking at this after I just finished a deliciously ripe California avocado, which I ate with nothing other than salt and pepper. Note to self: next time I need to fry an egg in that bad boy.

  7. My family went out for our last Sunday brunch before my sister and I return to our respective college towns. Based on the “Amazing Food. Amazing Grace” tagline, we took the drive downtown to the art deco restaurant, where the nommiest food (think homemade bread served with maple-pecan butter) was accompanied by a live gospel singer. Eggs florentine AND gospel? Heavenly.

  9. After fasting all day for Yom Kippur, I went with my friend Emma to the legendary Hungarian Pastry Shop on Amsterdam Ave. to break the fast. We had the most scrumptious of feasts: I had a baklava with house coffee and Emma had some unnamed chocolate mousse concoction and a cappuccino. Everything from the artistic ambience to the phenomenal desserts to knowing that it’s just a few blocks from campus made this one of the best dining experiences I’ve had thus far.

  10. I went with my friend Camille to a small French cafe on Bleecker St. We shared a most decadent dessert: chocolate soufflé, served with fresh whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. While the soufflé was a bit denser than expected (it was more like a lava cake, particularly because of the delicious chocolate sauce that oozed out of the middle), it was the perfect way to usher in the weekend. Bon apetit!
